Sport and physical activity
Encouraging people of all ages to exercise more is a major focus of our community initiatives. Thousands people actively participate in our sports and fitness activities each year. These include:
Parnership with the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine
The Coca-Cola Company is the longest continuous corporate partner of the Olympic Games since 1928. In Ukraine, our strong partnership with the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine started in 1996. We have jointly implemented a number of projects such as the Olympic Torch Relay on the eve of the 2004 Athens Olympic Games which was a pivotal moment in the history of Coca-Cola Ukraine and the Olympic movement in Ukraine.
Such large-scale and bright events as Olympic Day and All-Ukrainian Olympic Lesson are held annually. A jointly organized contest to design an Olympic mascot for the Ukraine National Team was another important joint event.
Special Olympics is the world's largest year-round programme of sports training and competitions for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Founded in 1968 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, sister of US President John F. Kennedy, Special Olympics has grown into a global movement that currently serves to more than 3 million athletes in 180 countries all around the world.
Special Olympics Ukraine was officially established in March 2002 though Ukrainian athletes with intellectual disabilities have been taking part in Special Olympics international events and every World Games since 1995.
Today we are a pan-Ukrainian organisation with more than 12,000 athletes in 18 regions of the country. However, this number is a fraction of the approximately one million people with intellectual disabilities who live in Ukraine.
In addition to community sports programmes, we are also supporting youth active lifestyle campaigns.
Call Your Friends – Let’s Play Together!
The aims of the project are to revive a sports culture among teenagers reintroduce healthy lifestyles to city culture and promote the idea of sports at home for the whole family.
The 10m x 10m playgrounds meet all environmental standards and are notable for their creative and fun design. Children and teenagers from 7 to 17 can use the standard equipment on the playground, play basketball or table tennis.
A grand opening has been held for each new playground built, where a special team through engaging competitions trained local residents to properly use the equipment for their benefit.
Since 2006, 77 sport playgrounds were constructed with the support of Coca-Cola Beverages Ukraine; 30 of them are located in the City of Kyiv, and the rest around the country.
